RED DEAD REVOLVER | TRAILER CAMPAIGN AND GAME ASSETS
I have always liked the Red Dead franchise - Sergio Leone’s The Good The Bad and The Ugly was always more of an influence for me than DePalma’s Scarface. That made me an outlier at Rockstar Games - where the Scarface vibe is ubiquitous, especially in the GTA franchise.
Either way, I was thrilled to get to work on this; more than on GTA. There was more freedom and fewer expectations. Visually I stole everything I could from Leone, Ford and Eastwood, then tried make the gameplay look like GTA Wild West.
It was very successful. Red Dead was not supposed to be a big game for Rockstar but a minor title. It was a rejected ex-Capcom title stuck development hell then inherited when Angel Studios became Rockstar San Diego. But the campaign built a lot of excitement and the sales were far above expectations.
Like Max Payne 2, I imagine most of the masters are long gone but I did discover I an old export of the reveal trailer - presented above.
