HITMAN | SEASON FINALE

CREATIVE DIRECTOR, DIRECTOR, EDITOR, WRITER

Io Interactive and Square Enix had a problem: their research showed that Hitman was perceived as a dull murder simulator lacking depth.

FWS countered this by creating a variety of assets, in particular this Season Finale trailer that focused on the prestige feel of the game and story.

This emotionally driven mood trailer - reminiscent of an HBO series promo - was designed to emphasise the characters and detailed plotting of the game.

Sadly, this game underperformed due to the irregular release schedule and experimental pricing that created customer confusion.

However, I like this trailer and I love the game.

The visual style was designed to be minimalist and formal. The intention was to make every shot look like it’s from a James Bond movie directed by Stanley Kubrick; with plenty of single point perspective compositions, some tracking shots and a cold voyeruistic feel.

It was great fun to work on: Hitman is one of the best game releases of this console generation. It’s a wonderful, intricate Rubicks Cube strategy puzzle of a game with endless depth to discover on replays.
